We started our advent calendar today!
You might remember this beautiful paper craft activity advent calendar I made for the kids from last year.
It was such a great hit with the kids that we have brought it out again and Chook can’t wait to get started on the fun in those little gift bags!
Today we started with setting up the manger and talking about why it is special. To introduce this activity I ‘read’ the book Nativity illustrated by Julie Vivas. I say ‘read’ because the text is taken from the bible and the children may not comprehend the story, so I used the pictures to tell the story at my children’s level. We then brought out the manger and placed it on our shelf.
Our next activity was to read from this lovely book I found at our local Christian book shop. It is completely orientated towards children, with each day telling a part of the Nativity story and then a child places a reusable sticker on the scene.
Advent Calendar Activity, Day 1
Our first advent calendar activity was to put up our Christmas Tree. This year we will continue with not decorating it straight away. The reason behind this is to allow my sensory seeker time to get used to the tree being in the lounge room and allow him time to touch and smell it, without decorations adding to the over-stimulation.
Get ready for Day 2 of our Advent activities by making up some salt dough (see our Salt Dough Recipe here), dig out your Christmas cutters, rolling pins and aprons.
