We’ve got a “few” counting books in our book area (I have weakness for collecting awesome children’s literature)!
Thought I’d share with you…
I love how this one shows children how many fingers represent each number all the way to fifteen (you’ll have to find a copy to see how they deal with fingers for numbers 11 to 15); the number is written as a symbol and as a word; and each picture contains several items to count.

How we use them:
- To read together
- To teach about books – the title, the author, the illustrator
- Encourage the children to join in the counting
- Count items on the page
- Where possible add matching objects
Why have counting books:
- Counting is fun!
- Preparation for math, reading and writing
