This week I am sharing with you a really fun party idea: A Bubble Themed party. We did this theme for the twins 2nd Birthday and today I want to share with you how we created this awesome cake.
One night I was browsing through Pinterest with the bubble theme in the back of my mind when I saw this incredible cake made by Once Upon A Pedestal. I knew that this WAS the cake and it seemed incredibly simple too!
I made a batch of butter cake batter using only egg white. A tip I picked up from Deborah’s post. My thinking was that I would get a whiter cake without the yolks and the colours would be vivid. The recipe asked for 3 eggs, as I was only using whites I used 4 eggs.
I divided the batter for the amount of colours I was using which was red, blue, green and yellow. Then using the cake pop tin I filled the cases with each colour.
I then baked them for 15 to 20 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.
While they baked I made another batch of butter cake batter, again only using egg whites (4 instead of 3). I poured some batter into the cake pan to cover the bottom.
I allowed my cake pops to cool but I didn’t freeze or refrigerate them. I then placed several cake pops into the batter and covered them with the rest of the batter, making sure no colour showed through.
I baked the cake for the normal length of time.
I left the cake to cool and that night (Birthday Eve) I decorated with a simple butter icing and chocolate smarties.
I don’t know who was more excited about cutting the cake! Me or the kids! It was totally worth the effort, judging by the extra excitement from the kids as the bubbles inside the cake were revealed!
Happy Birthday my double bundle of awesomeness!
Come back tomorrow for ideas on bubble themed party decorations and again on Friday for activities, food and lots more fun ideas!
